Privacy Policy

Nabah (نَبَأ) is an Islamic companion app for prayer times, Qibla, Qur'an, duas, and daily remembrance, built and maintained by Ayman Khaleel. This policy explains, in plain language, what the app collects, why, who it's shared with, and how you can remove it. It applies to the Nabah iOS and Android app and to this website.

Not monetized, and never will be

Nabah has no ads, no subscription, no in-app purchases, and no plans to ever add any. It isn't a business or a growth project. It was built, and is maintained, as a personal act of service for the Ummah, in the spirit of an ongoing charity, not for profit. Nothing in this policy exists to set up monetization later; it exists because handling your information carefully is part of doing this sincerely.

Information we collect

Information you provide. When you first open Nabah, you're asked for a name and how you'd like to be addressed. That's it, no account creation, no email, no password. A random, anonymous access token is generated on your device to identify your data on our server; we store only a one-way cryptographic hash of that token, never the token itself.

Location (optional). If you grant location permission, Nabah reads your device's coordinates once, to calculate accurate prayer times and point the Qibla compass toward the Kaaba. If you decline, the app falls back to Makkah times, clearly labelled as such. You can revoke location access at any time in your device settings; Nabah will simply fall back to the Makkah default.

Timezone. Your device's timezone is detected automatically, so your daily reminder plan and prayer countdown are anchored to your own day, not a server's.

App activity and preferences. Bookmarked ayahs and duas, your Adhkar and Sunnah tracking progress, your prayer-calculation method, and your notification preferences are stored against your anonymous account so they're there the next time you open the app.

Push notifications (optional). If you enable notifications, your device's push token is stored so we can deliver prayer reminders and your daily poetic reminder. You can turn individual reminder categories, or all of them, off at any time in Settings.

The "Feelings → Ayah" feature (optional). If you use this feature, the single emotion word you select (for example, "grateful" or "anxious") may be sent to our reminder engine, which can call a third-party AI language model to choose a fitting verse. Your name, location, and identity are not included in that request. If this optional service is unavailable, the app falls back to a fixed set of verses stored on your device.

Information we don't collect

• No email address or phone number
• No password (there's nothing to log in with)
• No payment information. Nabah is free, with no in-app purchases
• No advertising identifiers, no ad SDKs, no third-party analytics or crash-tracking SDKs
• No contacts, photos, microphone, or camera access

How we use your information

We use what's described above solely to run the app's features: calculating your prayer times and Qibla direction, building your daily reminder plan in your own timezone, remembering your bookmarks and progress, and delivering the notifications you've opted into. We do not use your data for advertising, and we do not build behavioural profiles.

Who we share information with

Nabah relies on a small number of external services to function. We do not sell, rent, or trade your information to anyone.

• Aladhan API: receives your approximate coordinates and date to calculate prayer times and the Hijri calendar. The last successful response is cached on your device so prayer times still work offline.
• Our reminder engine's AI relay: receives only the emotion word you choose, when you use "Feelings → Ayah," to select a verse. This step is optional and skipped entirely if you don't use that feature.
• Our push notification relay: receives your device's push token so scheduled reminders can be delivered. This is skipped entirely if you keep notifications off.

Qur'an text, translations, and recitation audio

The Qur'an text, translations, tafsir, and recitation audio shown in Nabah are not written, translated, or recorded by us, they're sourced from established, openly-distributed Islamic resources built specifically to be used by apps like this one, and we claim no ownership over any of it. Data storage and security

Your data is stored on cloud infrastructure operated by our hosting and database providers, protected in transit and at rest using industry-standard encryption. Access to the underlying database is restricted to what's needed to operate the app. As noted above, we never store your access token in plain text, only a cryptographic hash of it.

Your choices

• Location: grant or revoke at any time from your device's system settings.
• Notifications: toggle individual reminder categories, or all of them, off in the app's Settings.
• Delete your account: from Settings, choose "Delete Account" to permanently remove your profile, location, preferences, and bookmarks from our database. This cannot be undone. See Delete Your Data for full steps, including what to do if you've already uninstalled the app.

Children's privacy

Nabah is safe for children to use freely. The app asks only for what's described above, a first name and, optionally, an approximate location, regardless of the user's age, and never anything more. There are no ads, no analytics, no social features, no accounts to sign into, and nothing designed to target, profile, or engage a child for longer than they need. If you're a parent with a concern, or would like a child's information removed, contact us at the address below and we'll act on it right away.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that affects how your information is handled, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where the change is significant, note it within the app.
